Belgian Waffles

Last updated on 6.6.2018

Although it’s a shame, I haven’t been to Belgium, yet. Planning to, but, oh well. I know I’ve been missing a lot – belgian chocolate, beer, fries, JCVD statue, and of course … waffles. Well, as it turned out, this Sunday morning was the perfect time for waffles. I had all the ingredients at home and the batter recipe is so easy that it would be a sin not to make them.

This recipe is for 6 fluffy waffles, 1 plain waffle contains ca. 209 kcal, and is basically free – 3 CZK (October 2015)

1 cup (125 g) All-purpose flour
2 teaspoons (8 g) baking powder
1/4 teaspoon (2 g) salt
1/8 cup (25 g) powdered sugar
1 egg, separated
1/4 cup (60 ml) sunflower oil
1 cup (240 ml) milk

Sift the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Add egg yolk, oil and milk. Use an eggbeater to create smooth batter. In a separate bowl/cup beat the egg white untill stiff. Fold the egg white into the batter. Preheat a waffle iron and cook in batches, for about 5-8 minutes, until golden brown.

While still warm, smear with butter and drizzle with maple syrup. You can add blueberries or other fresh fruits, Nutella, whipped cream.
